New name for 77-year-old publication emphasizes role as the magazine for people who run welding businesses
CLEVELAND, OH (January 12, 2007) - Penton Media, Inc. announced today that 77-year-old Welding Design & Fabrication has been renamed Penton’s Welding Magazine. The publication features a new logo, graphic design, and the tagline: “Technology and process for the bottom line.” Its companion website also changes to www.weldingmag.com. The changes reflect Welding’s growing position in the marketplace and ongoing refinement of content to focus on the needs of businesses that weld.
“Today, welding is not just about the metallurgical reaction that takes place under the gas bubble,” said Publisher Bob Rosenbaum. “Any weld can now be managed, monitored and mastered. The hard part is doing it in the context of a viable business. Our readers worry about a lot of things that take place around the weld itself.” These include inventory control, gas management, regulatory compliance, customer service, safety and delivering return-on-investment for new equipment. “The new name better reflects the breadth of the welding manager’s responsibilities,” Rosenbaum said.
Over 18 months, the magazine was redesigned and updated to emphasize these issues, and to solidify its market position as the only magazine specifically for people who run welding businesses. “The name change comes at a watershed point in this process. It does not come at the beginning,” Rosenbaum said. “It comes at that moment when the heavy, structural work is complete, and we shift into a mode of more evolutionary change.”
The changes also reflect growth in a portfolio of market-leading products, including WeldingWeb.com, the largest online discussion forum for the welding community, and The Insider, Welding’s e-mail newsletter.
Penton’s Welding Magazine serves companies that provide products and services to businesses that weld. Subscribers include corporate executives, production managers, and engineers directly involved in welding operations. Also part of Penton’s Welding & Gases Group is the new Efficient Distributor Planning Workshop, a business forum between manufacturers and distributors or welding products, and Gases & Welding Distributor magazine, for distributors and wholesalers that support the welding community. Subscribers include owners and executives of distribution companies, production managers, and sales professionals – the key people who feed demand for branded welding products through their daily interactions with end-users.
